Post Two Articles with Contradicting Arguements On a Hot Topic

Find two news articles or editorials on the same subject that contradict each other on a recently controversial issue like:

Tax Reform (Pre-Passage or After)
Immigration (DACA, Chain Migration, Wall Building Etc)
Sexual Harassment (#metoo)
Or another relevant topic

Then give a summary of each argument and which one you agree with and why.

  3. I have two articles, each of which are in response to Trump's tweet that he is a "stable genius" ( http://bit.ly/2ASrTAn ), which is in response to the book that came out recently, "Fire and Fury". This book is written by Michael Wolff, who spent 6 months in the White House, speaking with staffers and people who surrounded Trump, and got information on their feelings about the President that they "serve at the pleasure" of. After collecting all these comments and stories, he put it into a book, "Fire and Fury", which is now the number one selling book in America. This book has many crazy/realistic claims (depending on who you ask), including comments from people in his own staff and people who have worked with him, calling him a "dope", a "f***ing idiot" and "dumb as s**t".
(For a rough and comical idea of the things that are in this book, indulge in Stephen Colbert's monologue from the other night: http://bit.ly/2DpNPGh )
Trump obviously has denied that any of it is true, and several people have come forward, claiming specific quotes were not true. But it should be understood that credibility is not exactly in the favor of either Wolff or the people denying these things. In other words, we simply do not know if the specifics of this book are true or not. However, the main idea this book point out is that Donald Trump is not mentally suited to be the President of the United States. He responds with the tweet I reference in the beginning of this comment. Here are two articles from two different media outlets, with two completely different takes on his "stable genius" tweet.
The first is from Fox News, and it is titled,
"Trump is sane. And Michael Wolff's 'Fire and Fury' just did him a big favor" (http://fxn.ws/2mkyzly)
In this Fox News article, Henniger is arguing that despite what this book claims, Donald Trump is not only sane but capable and qualified to be the President. In response to Trump's tweet, the writer of this article supports the idea that Trump knows what he is doing, and has done the best he can to prove the idea of this book wrong-- to simply show he is a stable person by continuing his roles as President. The writer points out specifically two events that prove the stability of the President, including a speech he gave in Nashville and the bipartisan discussion between him and democrats on immigration the other day. These events, he argues, prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the President knows we he is doing, and has completely obliterated the suggestion by "Fire and Fury" that Trump is not a "stable genius"
The next article I found is titled: "Seriously, How Dumb Is Trump?" and can be found on Huffington Post:
This article was written by Robert Reich, an outspoken liberal economist and critic of the President. While the Fox News article focused more on the "stable" part of Trump's claim, Reich deliberately focuses on the "genius" part, and begs the question, "How Dumb is Trump?"
Reich immediately draws into question the President's intellectual capabilities, and points out things that could discredit Trump's claims to be a genius. One of the examples he gives is by discrediting Trump's claim to have gone to an Ivy League school, while also pointing out that Trump only was able to go to the school because of family ties. Even though Reich points out that Trump may not be the smartest raisin in the bunch, he also points out the importance of considering emotional IQ.
Emotional IQ has two parts: understanding and managing our own emotions, and recognizing and influencing the emotions of others. Obviously, Reich states, Trump struggles in managing his own emotions, as can be seen in his outlashes over every criticism he's ever received. (continued in my reply)

    1. Reich clarifies though, that Trump seems to have mastered the art of influencing the emotions of others. Reich says, "[Trump] has an uncanny ability to discover their emotional vulnerabilities – their fears, anxieties, prejudices, and darkest desires – and use them for his own purposes." Although Trump may not be intelligent, Reich argues that Trump is a genius in the sense that a conman is a genius, which is significantly detrimental to the United States.
      ~~
From the direct words of the President, I just often find it hard to believe that he is a man who could be considered to be qualified for the position of POTUS. I disagree with the contention made by the Fox News article, that Trump's sanity can be proved by his actions in the past few days. I would give credit rather to his PR staff. In the next few months, I think more things will continue to come out about the Commander in Chief, but even if they were all true, I find it hard to believe that it change anything. I believe Reich was right, when he argued that Trump's emotional IQ is low in the sense of personal emotional management, but that he excels in the manipulation of the emotions of others. This can be seen clearly in his tweets, (including the stable genius tweet) and through those who avidly support him, regardless of the immoral and unethical implications he brings to the White House. To me, the fact that a book like this has become so popular in such a short amount of time is indicative of a greater issue involving the question of Trump's ability to effectively lead and represent the United States in a world quickly departing from detente.
This is something I tried to put together in a quick motion, if anyone finds anymore articles that they believe would make better arguments for or against Trump's "stable genius" tweet, please let me know! You guys know I love political conversation!

  5. My two articles are on #metoo and how men just think that just because they are in higher power or statues then us. That they can do whatever they want to women and even if they are they same as us women they think that just because they are stronger than us they can do whatever they please but they can't. They just have deal with it that they don't have over ruler women like the article(http://www.cnn.com/2017/11/22/opinions/what-part-of-sexual-harassment-dont-men-understand-drexler/index.html) he just thinks that just because he is a celebrity he think he can just sexual harass anyone it can be new celebrity or the old one as long as he has his fill he is good to me he doesn't care about women he just uses them for his own pleasure.

Then the second one was talking about when #metoo came out what it is used for it is so women can be out in the open and too know that they aren't they only ones going through this and if they don't want to tell then they can just tell #metoo and everyone will know oh ok and respect that you don't want to go talk about and the video is (https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/2017/12/18/women-rarely-accused-sexual-harassment-and-theres-reason-why) if you want to see it

  7. I would say that Tax reform before the home-equity loan interest deduction was repealed through 2025. State and local taxes: Under the act, individuals are allowed to deduct up to $10,000 including $5,000 for married taxpayers filing separately in state and local income or property taxes. Also I agree that tax should use Trump is still committed to a sweeping reform of the U.S. tax system, similar to what President Ronald Reagan did.

President Donald Trump on Friday said he wanted two major concessions in exchange for legal protections for hundreds of thousands of young immigrants who came to the United States as children. The president's demands potentially complicate bipartisan talks about shielding those immigrants from deportation. The immigrants are sometimes referred to as "Dreamers" after the proposed DREAM Act legislation that never passed Congress. It would have granted many of the same protections as the Obama program.

The immigrants are sometimes referred to as "Dreamers" after the proposed DREAM Act legislation that never passed Congress. It would have granted many of the same protections as the Obama program.Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination that violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Title VII applies to employers with 15 or more employees, including state and local governments. It also applies to employment agencies and to labor organizations, as well as to the federal government. It is unlawful to harass a person (an applicant or employee) because of that person's sex. Harassment can include “sexual harassment” or unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical harassment of a sexual nature. Harassment does not have to be of a sexual nature. But men and women disagree strongly on how frequently it occurs. The majority correlate the perceived seriousness of the behavior with the power of the person making the advance. Top management appears isolated from situations involving harassment. Many women, in particular, despair of having traditionally male-dominated management understand how much harassment humiliates and frustrates them, and they despair of having management’s support in resisting it. Most people think that the EEOC guidelines although reasonable in theory will be difficult to implement because they are too vague.

    http://www.breitbart.com/big-hollywood/2018/01/18/brigitte-bardot-majority-metoo-accusers-hypocritical-ridiculous/
These articles are both addressing the new movement of the #metoo hashtag going on on Twitter right now. The Metoo hashtag is a hashtag used with the mass of people coming out about sexual harassment, especially about more famous people. The first website was for the movement, encouraging it to help women speak out about how they were sexually abused by men in powerful positions, because it can be hard. People may not believe you and consequences might come for coming out. The second website talks about how its turned into a witch-hunt, they say people are lying about a person sexually assaulting them because it would be believed now and because they dislike the person and want to see them under fire.

These are two different opinions and it’s kind of crazy to consider they’re talking about the same thing. although their statistics and estimates on improvements or decreases may be the same, the explanation and or defense for it, contradict one another

These articles are talking about how congress is playing different roles in sexual harassment because not all have the same beliefs on it. They are talking about how it is a very confusing matter.
